The quality of light in Norfolk is rightly renowned. To be able to look out on the sea day after day and see all its different aspects is a real priviledge.
This was taken just a couple of hours after the previous shot, on 16th September 2005. It looks like a strom is brewing.
When the wind is mild, the air warm and the sea calm, there's nothing better than looking out of the window and seeing sailing boats going lazily past.
We see lots of ships on the horizon, mainly tankers and ferries. Some nights you can see the lights of twenty or more. Occasionally we see a sailing ship such as this one.
The tankers are usually on the horizon but occasionally they come inshore, perhaps because of rough seas or for some other reason. Once we saw a rescue helicopter winch a man off a tanker; prresumably he was ill and needed a hospital.
